New cuddle bed for palliative care

The delivery of the cuddle bed was celebrated with a morning tea at Beaudesert Hospital on Tuesday attended by staff, Jen from Kalbar Sunflowers and some of her staff, and Kylee from Lisa’s Lunches who delivers kits to palliative care patients and their families.

The generosity of a local scenic rim family will make end of life care at Beaudesert Hospital more special and family centered.

The family kindly donated a significant sum to acquire a cuddle bed for palliative care patients at Beaudesert Hospital which is one of the only hospitals in the state that still provides full circle care, meaning you can be born there, attend emergency through your life when needed and receive end of life care under its roof as well.

The bed allows family members and loved ones of palliative patients to lay in bed with the patient in the final weeks and days and can even be moved out into the garden to spend time in nature or have their beloved four-legged friends be with them as well.

Beaudesert Hospital Fund Community Partnerships Manager Ellen Dann said the charity was immensely proud to have worked with the community to provide what will be a much valued and used addition to the care offered at the Tina Street location.

“We were so honoured to work with Jen from Kalbar Sunflowers who put us in touch with an incredibly generous local family who were keen to support the hospital’s amazing staff to provide even greater care,” she said.

“Because they chose the Beaudesert Hospital Fund as their place to give and say thank you for the care provided to their loved ones, others throughout the Scenic Rim community will benefit for decades to come.

“Just being able to lay next to, cuddle and be close to someone who is in the final stages of their life can mean the world to both the patient and those they cherish, we really can’t thank them enough for making this happen for the community.”
